Bolude’s last-ditch clearance secures draw for Achievers against Unicorn
Achievers Football Academy defender, Sulyman Bolude, delivered a heroic performance on Saturday as his late touchline clearance denied Unicorn FA a dramatic winner in their goalless encounter.
Unicorn had the brighter start to the game, with Gidado Ajibola forcing an early save from the Achievers goalkeeper in the first half.
Moments later, Bolude nearly gave Achievers the lead in the 21st minute, but his effort was kept out by the opposition shot-stopper.
Unicorn continued to press forward and almost broke the deadlock seven minutes later when Daud Taofiq fired narrowly wide.
Taofiq would go on to miss another golden opportunity in the second half after a fine pass from AbdulRasaq Wariz, failing to convert from close range.
As the game edged towards its conclusion, Unicorn looked certain to snatch all three points when their striker beat the goalkeeper with five minutes left on the clock.
However, Bolude showed immense determination, racing back to clear the ball off the touchline and keep the scores level.
His decisive intervention proved to be the highlight of the match, earning him the Player of the Match award for his defensive masterclass and game-saving clearance.
