Super Eagles and Taiwo Awoniyi forward Taiwo Awoniyi has praised the Kwara Kiddies League, describing it as a vital platform for identifying and nurturing young football talents in Nigeria.
Awoniyi made the remarks during a visit to Week Two of the league’s fifth season, where he engaged with players and organisers in Ilorin.
Speaking in an interview with League Media Team, the Nottingham Forest striker commended the initiative for providing structured opportunities for young footballers to develop their skills and gain exposure.
According to him, grassroots competitions such as the Kwara Kiddies League play a crucial role in building confidence among aspiring players and helping them understand that professional football is an achievable goal.
“This is where you catch them young. Giving these boys a platform like this helps them see that becoming the best version of themselves is possible,” Awoniyi said.
The Nottingham Forest striker also noted that the league is backed by dedicated stakeholders committed to advancing football development in Kwara State.
He expressed optimism that the competition could grow into one of Nigeria’s leading youth football tournaments, comparable to well-structured youth systems in Europe.
Awoniyi further urged participating players to remain disciplined, focused, and consistent in their pursuit of professional careers.
“I am a testimony that dreams can come true. They should continue to believe in themselves and keep working hard because everything is possible,” he added.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting grassroots initiatives that promote youth development through football and create clear pathways for emerging talents to reach the highest level of the sport.
